lipo - Etymological Basque Dictionary-French-Spanish-English(G) Caterpillar (Zool.). The word has a var. lupu in biscayan. Cf. lat. lupu(m) "cancer, spider, scorpion". Another eurasian word is surely involved here for names of insects: finnish liipo "butterfly", dial. hungarian lepe, lipe "id." < uralian *lVpV (K. Rédei, UEW, vol. 3, p. 259).
