marru - Etymological Basque Dictionary-French-Spanish-English(G) Noise, howl. Expressive word. Cp. samoyed marru-igù "thunder" (Pallas, 1786, 200). Var. marro, marruma, marrubi.

Strawberry (Bot.). This word has no link with fr. "marrube", from lat. marrubium. It comes from a root *marr- meaning "berry": cf. marruga "blackberry" and in Eurasia the uralic *marja, mordvin mar "berry" (K. Rédei, UEW, 6, 718). Cf. also georgian marcqvi "strawberry".
Fresa, frutilla (Bot.). Esta palabra no tiene relación con marrubio, del lat. marrubium. De una raíz * marr- para las bayas : cf. marruga "mora" y en Eurasia el urálico *marja, morduino mar "baya" (K. Rédei, UEW, 6, 718). Cf. también georgiano marcqvi "fresa".
Fraise (Bot.). Ce terme n’a pas de rapport avec la plante dite marrube, du lat. marrubium. Il provient d’une racine *marr- désignant des baies: cf. marruga "mûre" et en Eurasie l’ouralien *marja, le mordve mar "baie" (K. Rédei, UEW, 6, 718). Cf. également le géorgien marcqvi "fraise".
