matorral - Etymological Basque Dictionary-French-Spanish-English(HN, B, G) Thicket. From sp. matorral "id.". However the root seems to be pre-latin and mediterranean: sardinian mata "thicket", port. mata "tree", hebr. mattagh "little tree", berb. tha-matta "thicket", drav. matta "branch".
(AN, V, G) Matorral. Del castellano. La raíz parece ser prelatina: mat(t)a cerca del Mediterráneo y hasta el dravídico: sardo mata "matorral", occ. mata, port. mata "árbol", hebr. mattagh "arbolito", berb. tha-matta "matorral", drav. matta "rama".
(HN, B, G) Buisson. De l’esp. matorral "id.". Toutefois la base semble pré-latine. On trouve un thème *mata, matta autour du Bassin Méditerranéen et jusqu’en dravidien: sarde mata "buisson", occ. mata "touffe d’arbres", port. mata "arbre", hébr. mattagh "arbuste", berb. tha-matta "buisson, tas d’herbes", drav. matta "branche d’arbre".
