Old maid. According to Pouvreau, from mutz/motz "cunnus" (?) and urdin "grey, old, ". The word is also gascon: moutchourdin with the same meaning (Bayonne, Chalosse). Cf. also the verb mutxutu "to mould" (LN) and mutxi "mouldy, musty, stale".
