Si la forme primitive était abo (1320), on pourrait la rattacher à la base eurasienne *gab- "creux, concave". Cf. proto-altaïque gabu, xabu > abu "intérieur de la bouche". Sinon peut-être de aho "souffle"? Cf. aussi hokan shasta ahu "bouche".
(1571) Boca. Variantes: ago, abo. Si la forma primitiva fue abo (1320), sería posible derivarla de la base eurasiana *gab- "hueco". Cf. protoaltaico gabu, xabu > abu "interior de la boca". O acaso de aho "soplo"? Cf. también hokan shasta ahu "boca".
