Dans la toponymie et hydronymie germanique on trouve souvent la forme *arn- : Erft de *Arnefa < *Arn-apa, Ernz au Luxembourg, Ernzen < *Arantia près de Bitburg (Eifel), Arnebrunn, Arnbach, Arnach, etc. Th. Vennemann (Introd., XIV/XV) cite également Arundel en Angleterre et Arendal en Norvège qui seraient des tautologies comme Val d’Aran. En la toponimia germánica se halla la forma *arn- : Erft de *Arnefa < *Arn-apa, Ernz en el Luxemburgo, Ernzen < Arantia cerca de Bitburg (Eifel), Arnebrunn, Arnbach, Arnach, etc. Th.
