In this BBC TV comedy with John Cleese, which episode do you consider the funniest ?
To me the funniest episode is that with the rat. I like the logic with which they determine which slice of veal does not have rat poison and can therefore be safely served to the hotel inspector. |

My favorite episode is the one entitled THE GERMANS. I love the moment when Manuel is left alone at the desk and starts reciting his English lessons behing the reindeer. Then the Colonel approaches and finds the talking reindeer. It's just hilarious !
Thank you for posting this ! |

There is a moose head (a hunting trophy) on the counter. Manual, the Spanish waiter, behind the counter, is practicing his English and picks something on the floor, saying “I can speak English; I learned it from a book”. The Major passes by, and, not seeing Manuel, believes that the moose head is talking.
Actually, I have a book with the complete script of Faulty Towers. I discovered in it many details that I couldn’t catch in the film. |

That must be definitely hilarious; I mean, reading the complete script! A friend of mine gave a copy of a whole season of the series and it is just great!
I wish French series were funnier! |

I recommend watching a DVD with the subtitles in ENGLISH, for non-native speakers.
It helps also with films by people like Ken Loach who used many non-professional actors with strong authentic regional accents. |

It is not obvious, but it was the paperboy who moved around the letters of the "Fawlty Towers" street sign. Here are the resulting texts, and an attempt to translate them.
Farty Towels : serviettes flatulantes
Flay Otters : loutres dépecées
Watery Fowls : gallinacées aqueuses
Flowery Twats: cons (2 sens) à fleurs
Fatty Owls : chouettes grassouillettes |

Is it the one where Manuel, poor lonely waiter from Barcelona, has a rat as a pet and he doesn't want to get rid of his new friend? |

Yes.
Basil Fawlty is played by John Cleese, whose family name used to be 'Cheese' before his father had it changed to 'Cleese'. |

I thought John Cleese/Cheese a.k.a. Basil in the comedy was afraid of rats, not of mice.
Anyway even if his last name has been changed to Cleese, he still makes us smile (click) and even laugh. |

one of my favorite lines is when Basil says something like "you have to put butter ON - THOSE - TRAYS" and Manuel thinks he said "un dos tres" in spanish
a great number of good jokes are due to Manuel's miscomprehension of English, as well as Basil's bad knowledge of Spanish
i just love them |

The Germans is a favourite, and on top of that the line "Don't mention the war" is now part of everyday speech. |
