Val d’Aran en Cataluña, también Val d’Aran en los departamientos Bouches-du-Rhône y Var (Francia), en la toponimia sarda (Aranake, Aranzu, etc. según Blasco-Ferrer). En la toponimia germánica se halla la forma *arn- : Erft de *Arnefa < *Arn-apa, Ernz en el Luxemburgo, Ernzen < Arantia cerca de Bitburg (Eifel), Arnebrunn, Arnbach, Arnach, etc. Th. Vennemann (Introd., XIX/XV) mentiona también Arundel en Inglaterra y Arendal en Norvega como tautologias del mismo tipo que Val d’Aran. Cf. también Arance (Landes), Arn (Tarn), Arne (Marne) segùn E.
