(prehistoria) Agua. Antigua palabra eurasiana. Cf. Eure manantial Urae fontis (Nîmes, Gard, s. III), Ur (Pyr.-Or.), Eurre (Drôme, Ur) s. X. La forma ur "agua" que aparece en los nombres germánicos como Urbach o Auerbach fue probablemente interpretada erroneamente por "uro" (buey antiguo). Meseta, llanura. Cp. nakh urd "terreno" (?). Una relación con altaico ürd, ürt, üst "altura" ha sido también propuesto en 1943 por P. Fouché ("A propos de l’origine du basque", Suplemento al tomo V de Emerita, 21-22). La var. ust parece posible en el topónimo Ustaritz (Labourd).

Plateau, plaine. Cp. caucasien nakh urd "terrain"(?). Un lien avec l’altaïque ürd, ürt, üst "haut, élévation" a été également proposé dès 1943 par P. Fouché ("A propos de l’origine du basque", Suplemento al tomo V de Emerita, 21-22). La var. ust semble présente dans le toponyme Ustaritz (Labourd).
