ata - Etymological Basque Dictionary-French-Spanish-English(IVth. c. Veleia?) Father. Old proto-eurasian word. This form ata of Veleia instead of the current aita seems to be in favour of the authenticity of the inscriptions. The form atta is attested in aquitanian. Cp turkish ata, gotic atta (Wulfila), hurrian attai, tagalog tatay "id.", arawak taita "id.", etc.
