ezten - Etymological Basque Dictionary-French-Spanish-English
ezten
(1571) Sting, point. Difficult etymology. The word was compared with berb. t-isten-t "sting, needle" by H.G. Mukarovsky. There is a var. izten (G) but also var. with initial l-: lezten, lezta (Baztan). A link or crossing with eztera, geztera and gezi is possible. See also mizto. The var. with l- might be also in relation with the words for insects with sting (listafin, etc.).
