Outside of basque, cf. dravidian kas "bitter" (DED 1249), uralic *katch- "bitter", cheremis (mari) katche "id.", same (lapp) kuocca, guocca "id.", vogul (mansi) kache, xassi "id.", mongolian gasi- "bitter", amerind (quechua) katchi "salt".
