bai
Lakarra *ur-ban-i "eau coupée" (sic) est exclue.
River. It is the old form of ibai as one can see in the toponymy: Baigorri, Bayonne. Perhaps cognate with austronesian tahitian vai "river, water", samoan vai "well"? See also the case of bihi and guti. The reconstruction of J.A Lakarra *ur-ban-i "cut water" is of course not convincing and far-fetched.

(XVIIe s.)
(XVIIth c.) House, inside, by. The word has been compared with semitic bait "house" that gave forms in Europe in the north of Italy or in french slang baïte "room, house" (Les Voleurs, Vidocq, 1836). But the basque form is restricted to Labourd and seems rather to come from the affirmative bai which made baita "agreement" wherefrom the shift to "inside".

bihotz
(aquitain Bihos-) Coeur.
(aquitanian Bihos-) Heart. The etymology bi hots "two sounds" is not very convincing. Link with greek bios "life" (cf. irish bith, bioth "life", latin vita)? The name of the heart is cognate with the one of the bile or the liver in many old languages. Cf. in basque behazun, bieztun, biotzun "bile".
