(prehistory) Snow. Cognate with its doblet lur "earth" and perhaps with nivkh (ghiliak) lur "ice". Cp. chechen luo "snow"?? Even if the chechen word is not cognate with the basque one, the semantic link between chechen luo "snow" and lea-(tta) "earth" is the same as in basque. This shows that in some cold places the earth, the ground and the snow were often confounded. Those who, like J.D. Bengtson, think that the two basque words lur and elur are only chance resemblance are obviously wrong. The same style of prehistoric doublet come again with ezur "bone" and zur "wood". Var. edur. See also lur.

eman
(préhist.) Donner. Proto-basque *e-ma-n. D’une racine proto-eurasienne *mV. Cp. ostiak/khanty ma "id.", toungouse ma "id.". J.H.
J. H. Greenberg (2002, n°194, p. 88) presenta una raíz *ma "dar" en amerind: mixe ma "dar", kamakan ma-ne "id.", maidu ma "mano", uto-aztec *ma "id.", ma-ka "dar", urubu-tapuya uamon "mano", coahuiltec * ma-ke "dar", bororo *ma-ko "id.", quechua maki "mano", tanoan *ma-n "id.", choctaw ima "dar".
(prehist.) To give. From a proto-eurasian root *mV. Cp. ostiak/khanty ma, tungus ma "id.". This very old root has three extensions *ma-n, ma-k, ma-r. J. H. Greenberg has shown this root in amerind: mixe ma "to give", kamakan ma-ne "id.", maidu ma "hand", uto-aztec *ma- "id.", ma-ka "to give", urubu-tapuya uamon "hand", coahuiltec *ma-ke "to give", bororo *ma-ko "id.", quechua maki "hand", tanoan *ma-n "id.", choctaw ima "to give". Latin manus "hand" is coming also from this root. Since he was concentrated on eurasiatic, Greenberg did not see the basque form which is directly a reflex of the oldest form *ma. Cf. also ma, mo "to give" in the languages of New-Guinea and ma "to give" in khoisan (Vossen, 1997: 440). Var. emon.

epher
Perdrix (Zool.).
Partridge (Zool.). In spite of the appearence, this word is not cognate with lat. perdix "id.". It comes from a stem *per-/par-/pur- "back" like its var. eperdi "id." and its der. eperdikara "waterthrush, wagtail". It is cognate with ipurdi "back, arse". A cognacy with the latin word might only be possible at a very remote eurasian level with the same stem *i>per-d, pur-d "back, arse".
